Mike McBride has written another beautiful song! This one is a straight-out love song with no explicit theology, and it is all his own. (It is quite all right for talented Christian artists to make things of beauty that are not totally explicit on faith, btw! Mike certainly has expressed his faith very well already in his music.) This one has a gorgeous melody; it plays a lot with experimental key changes & arrangements. Josh Loell gets credit for producing, mixing & bringing this vision to life. It really is a thing of beauty, that's been getting amazing reactions so far.

Since Mike has returned to the group the last few years, he's had a musical renaissance, pouring out so many new songs. Some of them sound like his Living Waters style, and some he has performed with us, like "Save Me". But there are some that are Mike McBride as Mike McBride. It is our intention to put out an album, at some point, that includes all the work he has done during this time of musical rebirth. It will be in his own name, not "Living Waters" per se. (There is at least one more tune by him in the pipeline, so wait for that.) Meanwhile, work is ongoing this summer on old band songs, "Light of the World" & "Sing to Jesus" in preparation for a new LW album. That is so exciting! Mike also said he will be adding something to "Covenant Love". We are SO very happy to be sharing these blessings with you all!

The FLOW in "Still Flowing": Forever in love....

There is a LOT of thematic AND sonic flow in our new album, "Still Flowing"! We've noted some things already in recent posts. This album brings up a lot of the transitory difficult things we face in this life: the death of loved ones, the trap of sinful or addictive behavior and loneliness, and so on. And, yet, because of the Lord's Mercy from the Cross, precisely in these things we can hear the echo of "forever", the scent of heavenly incense. Listen to "Stay" (which Mike had thought of calling "Forever in Love"), and, then, "Forever". Married covenant love, and all its struggles, leads us to Calvary and....FOREVER! This February, in honor of our 40th anniversary as a group, I have created a new video featuring pictures that celebrate who we are in the context of St. Valentine's Day. (Recently, we posted an OLD love song video, "This Loving Stream", from my first dance with Julia, THIRTY years ago this year! Another old video will soon be re-posted.)

So! Mike's brand new love song, "Stay!", is now up on ReverbNation & Youtube. It rejoices in all the marriages, family and group love and prayer we have and are experiencing. It also remembers those we have loved who have passed on, in particular, Cheryl, pictured here with Mike, who cared for her so much toward the end.

Well, it's now February, and I think we are gearing up for St. Valentine's Day. We will share several items, including the new song by Mike. This song I recorded vocal and guitar on cassette and the wedding band played along with it for the first dance at our wedding, June 1, 1986. It's kind of hard to hear the words, so I will reproduce them here:

Mike McBride is looking at a new song!

Dave & Kath, Tony & Denise, Greg & Anne with Josh & T: a lot of faithfulness for a long time....

Well! The latest LW production is a love song. It is called “Stay!”; one trusted listener commented that it reminded them sonically of The Cure; I hear some U2 in the guitar also. It is definitely high-quality songwriting. Its completion comes immediately on the heels of the marriage of Jackie & Eric in the group – how timely! Mike and I sang together his very first song at that wedding; it is entitled “Love Is” from I Corinthians 13. We are talking about making that our next project perhaps, making sure Mike and I sing together on it again. That would be great!

I really got a kick out of it when I noticed that our other big love song in the past was “We’re Gonna STAY”: STAY? – we’re gonna STAY? – right? Staying is something that is really hard to do, sometimes. We see Matrimony in the Lord as a forever Covenant that is an ideal place to learn sacrificial love. Genesis 2 says, “A man shall leave his mother and a woman shall leave her home, and they shall become one flesh.” However, our point is never to condemn those, even among our family, who’ve had bad experiences here. We want our fidelity to our spouse, our family and our friends to be more of a sign of hope and joy! The Lord’s help in keeping this commitment, which is eternally sure for those who make this promise before God and everyone, is something that blesses everyone else around, wherever they may be in their life. I might also say this song perfectly fits the Living Waters cry of joy and trust heard in so many of our songs.

Mike felt a wonderful, deeper truth in the song he was given. Here’s what he said:

Stay?  This song is for anyone.  It's about speaking up.  A proclamation.  Commitment.   An exciting expression of letting love flow.  It makes me feel grown up.  It's for anyone; my children, my parents, my friends, my soul mate, my God.  Without them, where would we be?

True that, Mike! I also include the link for “We’re Gonna Stay” recorded in the early 90’s, which we also reprised at the latest wedding.
