Looking at Videos!
Looking at Videos!
With the recent great success of our video, "Let It Reign", we thought we'd take a look at a few of the other videos we have on "LivingWatersUtube". (CLICK!)
If you put them in order of popularity, the next most popular is our fun skit, "The Parable of the Talents", captured at a 2004 concert. Third most popular is, "Booze Blues Cruise", a song we never actually did in concert; it has just a few pictures used for the video, with emphasis on the music. We have several photo montages like "Do What He Tells You to Do", which comes in fourth. Our first photo montage, showing a rough history of the group, comes in at number five, and is appropriately backed with "Love's in a Name".
After that, it is worth noting several of these. Mary Gillis' loving tribute, "Lonely Dancer" is something VERY special to us. We have a lot of rough concert clips here, notably "Love in Arms" played just a few years ago. There are several photo productions that have gotten some attention, like Mike's "Take Me" and "Stay!" and the recent very successful song "Anna Post Writing" put to video. A couple of Mark's older songs, "This Loving Stream" and "Perfect Gift Song" were captured back on his wedding day. We did also put our first podcast out here.
There's so much we've managed to save, create or otherwise present to you. We invite you to join, peruse, and celebrate with JOY the Good God's goodness to our family!

Award Nominations for Living Waters!
We just got the word! We received three different nominations for the Indie Music Channel Awards in Hollywood, California. Unfortunately, I don't see how we could collect any awards in person, should we win. But, it is a great honor. The songs involved are "Alive Again", "Do What He Tells You to Do" video, and "Light of the World" DEMO. Here are the nominations:
There are actually more nominations for the first two which I could not get in the picture. We'll be interested to see how this turns out!

An Award for Contemporary Christian Song!
An Award for Living Waters!
Yes, Living Waters has won the 2017 Radio Music Award for "Best Contemporary Christian Song", for our recent song, "Do What He Tells You to Do". It is given out by the Indie Music Channel in LA, and our song got featured on their site as a result of this. We qualified for the award, because our song was played on Adoration Radio and some other small stations. One person - one whom I happen to deeply respect! - said he listened to it 15 times in a row! Guess it's good. Here it is on YouTube and SpotifyDo What He Tells You to Do on "Alive Again" EP - Spotify

Giving Thanks Through Teaching and Song!
Giving Thanks Through Teaching and Song
by Mark Lajoie, Theology Teacher
(An article for "Guertin Pride" about Mark)
(An article for "Guertin Pride" about Mark)
“Thanksgiving”. That word means so much to me, as to faith, as to my band, and as to my school.

When I was a teen, I was such a sad case in so many ways, but the Lord saw my poverty and reached out to me in my need. Our Mother, Mary, and her Rosary saved my life and gave me joy and a purpose in faith & music, mostly through a young group of friends who became my band and my faith family, Living Waters. (I also became an academic who loved research, learning, and teaching.) Here is a song that Mike and I wrote together, around the summer of ’78, in which the ‘thanksgiving’ just poured out of me. Click to listen: “Song of Love”. Many years of great music, faith, and friendship followed.

I continued to grow and experience so much! As time went on, I got married to Julia from the band, had kids and, late in the game, I began to teach Theology to high school kids, which seemed so perfect for me. Then, in 1999, I lost my job and most everything, and we had to leave the place where we were living immediately, with nowhere to go and a newborn baby! The mover we contracted to store our stuff took one look at our stuff and drove away, leaving us in an impossible quandary. I called my best friend in the band, Chuck Rossignol; within an hour, almost the whole band family showed up with two moving vans and moved our stuff into WHY storage in Nashua and got us set up at the Residence Inn in Merrimack! You cannot buy friendship like that; I am forever grateful for this kind of love they have always shown. Every Thanksgiving I truly celebrate how many blessings like this we have received from this group!

Around this time, I interviewed at Bishop Guertin and I was amazed at how active the service club and campus ministry was, how alive the spirit was, how perfectly the Brothers seemed to fit my own background and temperament. I prayed and prayed I could get in there – and the Lord heard my plea! I was SO happy and thankful! I told everybody that I felt I had ‘landed POW! right in a pot of jam’! I got up at the Faculty Meeting in the A/V Room and said ‘I LOVE this place!!. (Coach Mac used to make fun of me for this, but I would just say, ‘well, it’s TRUE’. It STILL is true!) It has been over 18 years and I know how blessed I am to be here. Here is a recent song I wrote to express this! Do What He Tells You to Do Video
This all fits our Catholic faith here at BG. A sacrifice of thanksgiving is what Abraham sought, the bread & wine offered by Melkizedek. Eucharist means, “thanksgiving” or “Good Gift”. We could not get a better gift than our Risen Lord truly present with us at Mass and in our life of faith and charity. I have been able to experience this fully in my band and in the wonderful school known as Bishop Guertin High School!

My band gave a song to Pope John Paul II, and, in recent years, we have won awards, thrived on line and worked on new recordings. You can read some of the stories of our band on our official blog AND you can listen to the music we have produced for over 40 years on Spotify and other streaming services. Living Waters is FLOWing on Adoration Radio!
9/4/15 As of now, Adoration has moved to "Breadbox Media"!

Adoration "Culture of Life" Website Address
The recently released Living Waters song, "Do What He Tells You to Do", has been featured in several broadcasts of Adoration Radio this month: July 4, July 11 & July 18. And NOW, we are told "Alive Again" will be featured soon, including an interview with Mark Lajoie about the song.
Mary Graham, the creator of Adoration Radio, is an old internet friend of the band. A couple of years ago, when Adoration was a web-style broadcast, she was very generous in including several of our older songs, and providing links to our sites; she especially liked our classic guitar brothers picture!
Unfortunately, that enterprise could not be sustained, but, now it is gloriously resurrected on Real Life Radio. In its current incarnation, it is a regular live radio broadcast, which is re-issued afterwards as a podcast with bonus material. Mary and her crew are doing yeoman duty promoting & publicizing great Catholic music, and we are praying and rooting for this show. It was certainly a thrill for us to hear our song play right after Audrey Assad and Matt Maher.
The stories on Mary's excellent interview program, Living Witnesses, are also certainly worth listening to, including one by our own Mark Lajoie. We strongly encourage you to click through and listen to their skilled & spiritual efforts.

Living Waters on Living Witnesses - Podcast
Mary Graham
has been a friend of Living Waters in the past; she had played some of our
music in the original incarnation of “Adoration Radio”. She has since
pioneered a new show on Real Live Radio, entitled, “Living Witnesses”. (It is a broadcast, but, also, podcast;
you can go anytime & click on the link & listen to an episode at any
time.) The focus of the show is to allow Catholics to recount faith stories
& blessings in an easy, conversational way. (I had the privilege of using
this service when I followed their “33 Days to Morning Glory” Consecration
series.)
Well! Mary
contacted me and asked me to be on the show, to share some of the faith stories
which I had shared on our band blog. She called me on a Monday morning and we
did the recording over the phone. I talked about my conversion experience as a
teen, a couple of miracle stories, and how I got the song “Make Me Free”. I
then told how I met Julia and how she encouraged me to send “Peter the Rock” to
John Paul II. In the last section of the hour, we talked about my recent
experience with “Do What He Tells You to Do”, and how it tied into my
consecration and Matthew’s health issues. Finally, I remembered back to 1974
and how I got the song “Jesus”. The basic theme was the immense Mercy of God to
a poor teen, and how Our Lady, given to us as a mother from the Cross, has been
so merciful in leading me and mine to The Source of Mercy, changing my water
into wine. It was a wonderful conversation, and Mary Graham made me feel very
comfortable.
At the head
of this article, I have a link to a playlist on ReverbNation of the four songs
played during the show in the order they appeared, as well as a link to the
show. EnJOY!

Julia and I and a couple of the
boys were driving down to the Christmas Party at Tony & Denise’s this
year. It was pretty lively all the way,
but, despite the noise, throughout the drive, this song just kept coming into
my head: a ‘bluesy rocker’, perfect for Living Waters, and with a strong
message. (And, of course, it fit in perfectly with my faith journey at the
time.) I showed Dave the song when I got there.
It was so catchy and yet so meaningful!
I used the chorus in my class when we prayed that Mystery, and the kids
just loved it so much. When I first
showed the song to the group, Tony very astutely observed, “Hey, that’s the
second Luminous Mystery!”…yeah, that’s right!
When the Mellos asked us to do a concert this summer, I
thought this would be PERfect! We learned this song, and “Save Me from Myself”
by Mike, as brand new band songs for the concert. We learned it very quickly, and it came out
beautifully live. It really is a great
Living Waters ‘band’ song! Jim recorded part of the concert version; it is
posted on YouTube here: Do
What He Tells You to Do VIDEO
It became clear that we needed a studio version of this.
Josh and I got together on Tuesday, June 22, 2014, and spent most of the day
working – it was ‘flowing so easily’ as it says in “Love’s in a Name”. It was so great! It only seemed like a few
minutes. Mike was there in the morning as support. I was so glad to see him. We
actually got most of it done on that day! Greg & Josh tweaked and added
some more and? Voila! I think this really does the original vision of the song
justice. [We put out a first mix and will probably add some more in coming weeks.]
One group history story: You may notice I yell “Change!” a
couple of times in this song. I do that on purpose. Back in the 70’s &
80’s, when we were doing so many shows, we used to wear these awesome costumes,
like the dashikis and the blue ruffled shirts. Well, when it was time to change
for the show, I used to yell, “CHANGE!” and then I would freeze into a
distorted body tableau…and then another – “CHANGE!”! (Tony especially enjoyed
these performances!) It was a visual pun! (Love those!) And then we would
change into our clothes. This song is all about the Lord changing our
hopelessness – I just had to take this opportunity to yell “Change!”….
The message is a crucial one for right now, I think. The 'beloved disciple' represents US throughout his Gospel, and that is true of this story. The
Miracle at Cana was the first of Jesus’ signs and the one which first caused
the Apostles to believe; and, He, Himself, is the orchestrator of the Church’s
mission of love. If we do what He says,
there will be REAL change that people will see for themselves; they will be
able to choose the Kingdom for themselves.
And, there IS such a thing as a “household of faith” and a “communion of
saints” (a phrase from the Apostles in the earliest creed), and this truth is
modelled for us right from the start in this incident. The Apostles are brought together with Mary
and Jesus by a common, living faith in the Eternal Power of Christ. It seems Mary knew this instinctively (that
happens when you’re full of grace, I guess), and that’s why she said what she
did.
Further, like John 6, John 2 is very Eucharistic. In the early catacombs, the most popular
triptych of murals, seen in many places, had the Last Supper in the center
flanked by the Miracle of the Loaves, and the Miracle at Cana. This imagery was preaching the Presence of
the Risen Christ when we “DO THIS” in memory of Him. When we ‘do what He tells
us to do’ in this case, a miracle happens & the Risen Christ is there! If He can change water into wine, can He not
change the wine into Himself to commune with us? If He can multiply regular
bread to feed so many, can He not multiply His own Body to all times and places
to feed us all spiritually as we need our “daily Bread”?
One more interesting fact is about the very unique word for
“woman” from Gen 3:15, a verse sometimes called the Protoevangelion or “first Gospel”:
I will put enmity between you and the woman, between your seed and her seed. She
will crush your head, and you will lie in wait for her heel. (DRV)
This very singular word is used here in John 2 when Jesus
says, “Woman, my hour has not come” AND from the cross in John 19, when he
says, “Woman, behold your son”. The
“hour” when Jesus, “the seed”, and “the woman” crushed the serpent’s head was
precisely on the cross! By performing his first miracle, Jesus was consenting
to begin this journey to the cross! Jesus uses this special word to
definitively link the Protoevangelion
prophecy with the beginning and end of his mission. Of course, St. John is the
perfect person to make this connection!
Well, that’s enough theologizing for one post! Bottom line?
You really ought to follow Mary’s excellent advice for real in your life! “Do
what He tells you to do”. And then? Watch what happens!!
Peace & Love & JOY,
Mark LaJOIE!

Living Waters Concert!
Living Waters Concert!
What a day it was! Paul & Helene Mello had asked us to go to celebrate the 100th anniversary of their church, St. Peter's in PetersHAM (the pronunciation of which, Chuck learned, to his chagrine)! We went into the rustic, tiny church to pray together beforehand. The weather was PERFECT. We got to see and talk to so many old friends, and catch up to what's been going on in our lives. We got to sing happy birthday to Paul (at St. Peter's on the day of Peter and Paul)!! As Chuck Trella observed, it was like a slice of heaven.
We got to do a couple of brand new songs which were received very well. Jim managed to catch some footage for us. The sound quality is obviously not the best, but I think this captures the spirit of things. (Parable of the Talents was really effective; my son said it actually reached his heart.) Here is a link to an excerpt from my new song, "Do What He Tells You To Do":
The Trellas went up there to give us a spell, and sing several - excellent - songs. I loved their adapted hymn. Here is a short excerpt from one of their originals:
AND, here is "Love in Arms", featuring Josh Loell and Sam Vassel on brass! You'll notice we're singing "can't you feel the love OUT here"!:
If anybody who went has any other anecdotes to offer, please feel free! We are rejoicing....
