This was written in the early 90's or so, I think. I remember performing it as a group at a Congregational (?) Church somewhere. I found the program of a concert we did for the Xavierian Missionaries which used the title of this song as the title for the whole concert. The concert was done at Our Lady of Fatima Shrine in Holliston, MA where we used to keep our equipment at one point, although I think this concert was after that.

The song is, of course, about Pentecost, the birthday of the Church, when the Spirit fell on Mary and the Apostles and they began to preach in every language.  I wanted to give the idea of different languages being used so I put in a Spanish phrase and a French phrase (I've put French in several songs, haven't I?).

Evangelization and proseletyzing are only too easily confused. This song is really about the former. As St. Paul observed, "not many of you should be preachers".  Our desire to show the Truth should fill all we are and do in a very practical way.  Most of us can evangelize best by keeping our mouth shut and living!!  One time St. Francis took his brother to town; "we are going to preach", he said.  They gave some help to a poor woman, smiled at all, showed reverence at the church. They were on their way back when the brother said, "I thought you said we were going to preach", and Francis replied, "And did we not preach loudly with everything we did?".

We all have a job to do: to let the whole world know about the Best Possible News. We are loved! And we can spread that knowledge in a way that's built to last FOREVER!

Love,
Mark L.
